Should you use Threads as an online coach?

Threads launched in the UK last week and is basically Meta’s answer to Twitter.

If you’re an online coach, you might be wondering whether it’s worth setting up an account.

Should you be getting in on the action early?

Or is it a waste of time adding another social media platform to the list?

To make this decision, it helps to have a bit more context.

How it works

So, how does Threads work?

If you create an account on Threads, it will be linked to your Instagram profile. And this allows you to share your content as an online coach through text medium.

Meta have clearly seen some real benefits to the way Twitter is run.

Something they’ve probably caught onto is that ironically, one of the most popular and highest-performing types of content on Instagram is screenshots of tweets.

Of course, there’s a first-mover advantage for you to get on the platform now, just like there was with LinkedIn or TikTok.

But on the flip side, it’s another platform to manage.

In other words, another thing to take up your bandwidth.

So, if you do decide to give it a go, get it on a scheduler as soon as possible.

Otherwise you run the risk of it becoming another distraction doing from the really important stuff as an online coach.

Is it worth your time?

There’s lots of talk about the platform taking over from Twitter.

If you already have a Twitter presence, the good news is that it’s very easy to repurpose your content.

But remember not to get blinded by the flashing lights.

Everyone knows how much TikTok has exploded in the last few years.

And it’s only made us £12 out of 25,000 followers.

Which is why you can’t rely on organic impressions.

But when you’re considering whether Threads is worth your time, the most important thing to ask is:

Do I have a reliable way to generate leads long-term?

If you’re an online coach with less than 30 clients, you should be focusing 90% of your efforts on nailing the ads and outbound marketing.

So, prioritise this before you get to work on a Podcast, writing threads or anything else.

Why Threads is good news for ads

From an ads perspective, Threads is great news.

Because since Meta is increasing its supply of products, we’ll also see a temporary drop in the price of ads.

And it won’t be long before Threads becomes another place for ad placement.

The best way to take advantage of a new social media platform is to have a reliable sales sequence.

Whichever platform you choose to run ads on, they should be helping you:

  • get people onto your mailing list
  • get them through your sales funnel
  • convert a percentage of these people to clients

So, think of Threads as another space for running ads that will initially be cheaper than others.

But don’t put all your eggs in one basket, because nobody knows how successful this platform will be at this stage.

Instead, treat all platforms as an opportunity to:

  • get your content out there
  • gain more impressions
  • attract prospective clients
